We are hosting two Zoom practice sessions on May 11. During these sessions, you can practice sharing your screen, creating polls, assigning breakout rooms, and posting in chat.
These are drop in sessions facilitated by ILC graduate students and staff. You can drop in for any amount of time you like. If you have questions about Zoom before May 11, please email Lisa LaCrosslacross@southalabama.edu.
Pecha Kuchas are organized into blocks of 3 to 4 presenters each. Please review the order of the presenters inthe programLinks to an external site. and be ready for your name to be called. (I like to imagine that when your name is called, you run down the aisle and grab the microphone at the front of the room.)
When your name is called, the moderator will state your name, your institution, and then your title and press go on the slides. Your slides will automatically advance every 20 seconds as you programmed them to do so.As a reminder, it is easier if only one person presents, even if there are multiple names on the presentation.
When all presenters in the block have presented, then the moderator will invite questions from the audience for all presenters (now, image a panel answering questions). We will have roughly 8-10 minutes for questions for the whole block.
Q&A sessions: For sessions with more than 20 participants, all participant questions will be via chat. For smaller sessions, we will invite participants to unmute themselves.
If you find that people often mispronounce your name, could you please send Lisa LaCross (lacross@southalabama.edu) your name spelled phonetically? For example, Lisa = L-EE-S-UH
Pecha Kuchas are very fast paced and exciting, but, overall, they can be great fun!
Flipped Forum and Interactive Workshop Logistics:
The Flipped Forums and Interactive Workshops occur in series. Please note that the workshops are allotted 45 minutes. This includes question and answer time. Please aim for 40 minutes of workshop and 5 minutes of question and answer.
At the start of each presentation, the moderator will state your name, your institution, and then your title: If you find that people often mispronounce your name, could you please send Lisa LaCross (lacross@southalabama.edu) your name spelled phonetically? For example, Lisa = L-EE-S-UH
There is a five minute break in between sessions.
Flipped Forums are allotted 20 minutes. These sessions are open discussions. You may present your topic in 2 to 3 minutes and then open the floor for discussion. We recommend preparing discussion questions stemming fromboth your knowledge of the topic and the participants comment on the Flipped Forum resources.
Q&A sessions: For sessions with more than 20 participants, all participant questions will be via chat. For smaller sessions, we will invite participants to unmute themselves.
General Logistics:
As with any conference, we ask that yoube mindful of time. This is even more important in the virtual environment as it will be more difficult for the moderator to "catch your eye" to let you know how many minutes are left.
Moderators will post the time in chat as you near your end time. Then, they will kindly let you know that you are out of time with their microphone on.
Being mindful of time also means making sure that you are in the right Zoom room anddouble checking your scheduleLinks to an external site.. Please do not get lost! If you are lost, you can emailcotl@southalabama.eduand we will help you find your room. Or you can return to the Lobby of the Conference Canvas site for the list of Zoom rooms.
